Mark finally got tired of me bitching and whining complaining, and him and I went shopping last week for a new camera… I’ve had my eye on a new camera for a while now, but Mark’s always managed to talk me out of it.
“Sam, there’s other things we need to worry about before we start shopping for a new camera… food and electricity, for instance.”
“Macaroni and cheese is cheap, and I don’t mind lighting candles… what else have you got?”
I’m not ashamed to admit that whenever I would see a parent at a football/soccer/basketball game with a dslr, I had visions of snatching their camera away from their hands and running up and down the sidelines while screaming at my kids…
“SMILE, baby, and SCORE!!! Quick, before they catch me!”
I’ve always managed to restrain myself (just barely), and instead I tried to make the best with what I had. Which was shit.
That’s Gage scoring his first touchdown. Do you see him?
There’s Carter heading a ball… isn’t he precious?
After last weeks’ Football Photo Op debacle, I convinced Mark that now was the time for us to splurge and buy something for ourselves for a change. And because he can’t resist me when I beg (it didn’t hurt that I promised him he could take nekkid pictures of me, either) him and I drove to Clarksville Thursday afternoon to buy ourselves a new camera.
As soon as him and I walked into Circuit City, I felt it… an unexplainable something… and I knew it was meant to be. The lights dimmed, the aisles parted, and Neil Diamond serenaded us on stage in his bedazzled jumpsuit and freakishly large man brows…
“Where it began, I can’t begin to knowin’, but then I know it’s growin’ strong. Was in the spring then spring became the summer. Who’da believed you come along? Hands touchin’ hands, reachin’ out… touchin’ me, touchin’ you…”
And there it was… a Canon Rebel XSi.
I walked as if in slow motion to where the camera was on display. I held it in my hands, afraid to move… afraid that if I as much as blinked it would vanish from my grasp. And it whispered softly in my ear.
“C’mon… buy me. You know you want me. Let’s say you ditch that Kodak Easyshare Z650 and run away with me… we’ll take beautiful pictures together. I’ll make you happy, I swear… I’ve got focus you wouldn’t believe, baby.”
“Mark, get your wallet… I HAVE TO HAVE THIS CAMERA!”
I don’t think I’ve ever seen him pay for anything as fast as he did that camera in my life… I think that he was afraid I would embarrass myself if he were to wait any longer.
When we got home I eagerly opened the box and started playing with my new toy… words cannot express what I felt when I held my new camera in my hands for the first time. I normally wouldn’t put out on the first click- I’m just not that kind of girl- but I couldn’t help myself. After all, this wasn’t just any camera- this was 12.2 megapixels with a 9-point user-selectable autofocus system and 3.5 frames per second. This was POWER!
“That’s right, you know what I like… focus for me, baby… c’mon, I’m almost there… yes, yes, YES!”
I think I’m in love.

You do make a cute couple!
I am glad that you found a camera you like. I found mine on woot.com a few years ago and I love it!
LOL! Wow, I can feel the heat from here! Get a room…
wow! jealous, jealous, jealous over here! That means you are making me sin-that’s not good I think you should give it to me so you stop me from sinning
congrats on the new significant other!
~Julie
Why didn’t I get an invite to the wedding? Does he have a brother? I’m ready to trade in my crappy camera.
Congratulations! Happy Focusing! lol
Kirst
Now I”m all hot and bothered…
dmwright is right – GET A ROOM!!!
I wish hubby was nice enough to just fork over the credit card – heck, it took me 3 years to get the crappy HP digital camera which he constantly complains about! – wonder how long it will take to get me a real one!
Enjoy – and I bet hubby will enjoy the nekkid pictures! (Mine takes them with the camera phone while i’m in the shower not paying attention – try that out for embarassing – he actually put one on his wallpaper as a joke and forgot to take it off and lent the phone to a stranger at school! Ugh!!)
I want that camera! My anniversary is Friday. I should drop some hints.:)
We just have the video camera and it has a still camera function on it. The pictures are okay for uploading, but look really bad when developed.
I know how you feel girl. I am glad to be back. Boy have you been busy. Love the new camera.
I expect to see plenty of pictures. Look for my blog on Wednesday. I think you are going to love it.
I agree hunny — get a room! LOL
I know what you mean though as I love my camera — mine is a Nikon though. Oooooh, it’s making me all hot and bothered just thinking about it coming back to me — it, er, got dropped and broke so it’s being repaired as I write this.
So good! So good! So good!
Aw, come on, why am I the only one who commented on the Neil Diamond song?
Maybe you should host a give away with your camera of awesomeness. Just sayin. (hintin.)
Jen, I love it too! I listened to the whole thing and sang along with my cold induced throaty whisper. lol.
Congrats Sam! I’m glad you finally wore him down enough to get what you wanted. Be sure to take a topless hula picture for him. lol
I’m so jealous!
that’s how I felt when I bought my Mac!
Yeah, baby. Now we are talking. i am expecting to totally see tons of pics now that you are professional ;0) If you’ve got photo shop, stop by my blog on Fridays for some intro lessons! Congrats!
Ohhhh. You really are an adorable couple! Perfectly suited and I’m sure you’ll have many more Neal Diamond moments together.
I completely understand. I’m an ipod junkie. Every time they come out with a new model I get all mopey and hormonal until my husband finally tells me to put us both out of the misery and just buy the damn thing already.
I know exactly what you mean. We got our Canon a few months ago and I adore it!! You must check out http://www.shuttersisters.com. You’ll love it too!
I have the XSi too, it is a FABULOUS camera, and like you….I am in LOVE!!!
Be careful though…now you will be wanting to buy goodies for the camera…another lens…filters to put over the lenses, lens hoods to look professional (and be productive)…maybe a fancy camera strap cover….the possibilities are endless!! hehe
If you want any camera contraband…..urrrr camera accessories, go and see what I have for mine….I love all my toys!
