Snow Day(s)

img_2480This post is going to be short and sweet (which is unusual for me… I’m usually very wordy) because I need to stay sharp… Gage and Carter are home from school today for the third full day in a row because OH MY GOSH IT SNOWED THREE WHOLE INCHES Monday and the kids are determined to destroy the house and my sanity along with it (will someone please explain to Carter that giving me atomic wedgies while I’m cleaning is not funny?)(okay, maybe it is a little) just for fun.

img_2457aGage and Carter are thrilled… they’ve gotten up early the past three days and have spent most of the day outside. Snow is rare and we still have our sleds/snowboards that we brought with us when we moved (both of which haven’t been used very much since we moved) so they’ve spent the better part of every day outside sledding.

I’ve never seen Ryerson so happy… he LOVES the snow! I hate keeping him inside so I’ve bundled him up as much as I can considering he doesn’t own a pair of snow pants or boots and hope for the best (take note ofimg_24031 the gloves he’s wearing in the photo to your left… yeah, the gloves are actually Carter’s. The poor child doesn’t even own a pair of mittens… epic mommy FAIL) he doesn’t seem to mind the wet and I’ve had to bribe him with candy or frostbite to make him come in the house.

It’s been a while since I’ve taken pictures (hence the lack of Weekly Winners posts) so yesterday I took advantage of the fact that all three kids were playing together and having fun OUTSIDE and took as many
pictures as I could before my fingers went numb. Enjoy the pictures and until next time… that’s all ya’ll.img_2402

PS I still don’t understand why school is cancelled… it hasn’t snowed in two and a half days and most of the snow HAS MELTED ALREADY! The roads are CLEAR! PUHLEASE! I grew up in Michigan… I’ve laid out in worse than this.

PSS Note to self: Must remember to buy Ryerson mittens when we go back to Michigan for the holidays.

  1. What wonderful pics! I’m with you though. They cancel school in Arkansas to allow the weatherman time to look up the word “snow” in the dictionary and learn to pronounce it correctly. And if some actually hits the ground, there are people here who equate it to nuclear winter. Wonderful pictures, though!

  2. Yay! Snow! When we went to the UP for Thanksgiving, you couldn’t keep out youngest out of the snow for longer than it took for her to go potty. We just got dumped on a bit here. And they are saying 6-10 inches for tomorrow morning!

Though I will say that, Michigan drivers have been acting like they always do for the first good snow. “Oh my god, white powdery doom!!!!!! We are all going to die! Let’s drive like jerks!!”

  3. I love that top “air” shot!

  4. Those are great photos, but OMG!! Three snow days so far?! That’s complete insanity! I live where snow comes to die and my kids have never had three days off in a row because of it (which, thank you sweet, sweet baby Jesus!). They got out two hours early today (because of impending doom…bwahahaha) and this is on top of a regularly scheduled early out yesterday and already I’m ready to throw it in. Tomorrow is the last day of school before winter break…at least I hope!

  5. awesome pics.
and i’ve heard of wedgies, but what is an atomic wedgie? or do i not want to know….

  6. How fun! I wish it would snow here…after I get all my shopping done, that is. We’ve only had ice. Bah Humbug!

  7. Dear God, 3 days off for three inches of snow??? That’s nuts.

But that photo of the two boys on the sled together is solid gold.

  8. These pics are platinum worthy memories. Your boys look like they’re having a blast, even if you’re losing your mind in the process.

We live in Atlanta and if we get a dusting, everything shuts down.

We’re headed to snow country in two more days, and I’m hoping we’ll be blazing a trail on some red sleds.

  9. We must live in the same area. Schools have been closed off and on all week (they kept forecasting snow, it would dust a millimeter and life would stop), but today it finally REALLY happened. School was out today, and will be tomorrow too. Yay.

    The pics are great!

  10. Great pictures! I would tell you what our temperature has been in the past couple of days, but you would probably kill me.

  11. Go Carter! The atomic wedgie IS fun.

  12. The kids look like they are having a great time.

Atomic wedgies should never be encouraged for home use. This is a school activity only. Carter needs to be taught a stern lesson. Give one to him! LOL!

    Merry Christmas.

  13. Those are awesome shots…. I’m totally jealous and moving north ASAP. Ryerson looks adorable with the big gloves on. If I move north, can your kids teach me how to snowboard? Or ski? Or walk/drive in snow? That sounds like a lot of work, I think maybe I’ll stick it out here.

  14. On the bright side, Ryerson is young enough that the capillaries in his fingers probably haven’t completely developed yet so there won’t be lasting damage.

  15. I have cold and no snow. Snow would be a welcome change from just cold and grey.

  16. What a hoot! Yay for snowdays!!

It has been sub-zero here for days and no school cancellations–even with the windchill -25!!!! Lordy, I miss southern Indiana!

Nice photos…love the snowboard off the ramp…looks like my son would get along with your boys SPLENDIDLY! :) He wanted to go snowboarding with pneumonia. Only a boy…

  17. They are priceless!! The pics at the end are even more so. Ryerson’s smile makes it all worth it – but heck, don’t forget the mittens mom!

  18. We had one snow day this week. Only there was no snow. Or ice. It was super cold but I’ve never known that to be a reason to cancel school. I think they were just looking for a way to give us some foreshadowing as to what lies in wait the entire two weeks they are off for the holidays, “I’m boooooored!” “He/She touched me!” and let’s not forget the entire house being torn to shreds and the denials that come when you tell one of them to pick up. Good times. :)

Your snow pics are fantastic….looks like they had fun!

  19. Hey, wow. Looks like fun. Where in Michigan?

  21. Oh, I just love this post. Makes me almost forget how much I dislike the cold fluffy stuff.
